(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 23, 2012 ) Rancho Santa Margarita, CA -- A unique and eclectic collection of costumes from Hollywood movies and Broadway shows as been opened in Brisbane.
Nicholas Inglis has been collecting the items for 15 years, and has now amassed a strong series of outfits that have been worn by such stars as Judy Garland and Eddie Murphy. He says that he is still searching for his final pieces to appease his interest.
"When the collecting first started, it was about finding pieces that I loved but now it's grown into something more and something of a journey to preserve as much as I can," Inglis said.
"I see them as art - as pieces of history of Hollywood that's gone."
Inglish has spent a formidable amount of time watching classic films from the comfort of his home. The hobby helped inspire his general interest in collecting.
"I think it was a time of greatness in terms of how they made films. If you look at the production quality, the workmanship and craftsmanship that went into these pieces," Mr Inglis said.
Inglis' aunt owned a local cinema, which helped him access the many movies which spurred his heavy interest in the clothing of the stars.
"I've got pieces here from the musical Annie, the film version, I saw that film at my aunty's theatre, at Chermside, the Dawn Theater," he said.
"I never dreamt that years later I'd be owning pieces from that film".
It was not always the costumes that Inglis pined for. He stated that he started his interest with writing to stars, wherein he would ask for their autograph. He then moved to collecting posters, before he learned of a catalog from Christies that had costumes for sale.
"I didn't realize that you could collect things that appeared on screen and it all took over from there," he said.
"If you open some of these costumes, it's amazing what you see inside.
"Sometimes, there's more going on inside the costume than outside, the boning, the actresses were made to look a lot thinner than they actually were."
