Evidence 1920Â’s Dance Club, Pool Table Unearthed in Fuller Woods reports Monster Break Billiards

(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 01, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Larry Taff, lifelong Wisconsinite, has recently uncovered evidence that his home once housed a Prohibition-era dance club, run by his grandfather. The residence, built by his grandfather, A.J Taff in 1926 in Fuller Woods, may have been the site of an underground nightclub.

According to Taff, family legend held that his grandfather was involved in possibly-illicit business of this sort, but evidence was lacking, until Larry began renovating the nearly 90-year-old property in 2000. While expanding a room on the first floor, a business card and admission ticket to ‘The Tunnels’, a dance club situated on ‘Sherman Ave. At the River,” according to the ticket, was found stuck behind a door hinge.

The ticket had written on it “admit on” to the illegal gathering hall, billed as “Madson’s Subterranean Nite-Club”. “Dancing keeps you young,” the admission ticket promised.

Another of his grandfatherÂ’s classic 1917 Brunswick pool table may have been a storied part of the dance hallÂ’s legacy. The table, unlike the house, was willed to one of LarryÂ’s cousins from out of state and currently reside in New Hampshire.

Larry caught wind of a second Brunswick table being sold nearby and wondered if it might have been a companion to his grandfatherÂ’s table. He purchased the table along with cues and rack for $500 and commissioned Bullseye Games to restore the Brunswick. The set was completed with pristine black walnut rails.

LarryÂ’s grandfather likely did not serve alcohol in his underground joint given the fact he was a U.S. Marshall. Such a decision would have been very unwise, and newspaper articles from the State Journal and The Capital Times cover the opening of the club 1931, suggested that the business was not a Prohibition era speakeasy.
