(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 08, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- The anime convention host company, Sukoshi Con, was founded as a way to give anime fans an interactive and social experience, according to President James Carroll.
“We do stuff a little differently,” Carroll said. “We don’t like a cookie cutter convention.”
The conventions put on by the company allow fans to mingle, participate in games, and share their general interest and love for more than just the Japanese animation form. Instead, they can express their interest in all things that are pop culture.
Destination Anime is the company's latest endeavor, which will be taking place January 4-6 at Emerald Coast Convention Center.
Carroll stated that the location is perfect, as there are a number of individuals who are not merely interested in the convention, but also taking the opportunity to enjoying the Emerald Coast.
“It’s a nice place for people to come down,” Carroll said. “A gorgeous location.”
Some of the main events of the event include “Cosplay,” and costume contests, an anime game show, Homestruck Q&A, as well as a meet-up for My Little Pony fans. There is also an Asian Beer Tasting, a gaming tournament, and a discussion n of Steampunk. Finally, there will be a panel of voice actors and opportunities for fans to meet professional Cosplayers.
“It’s just a big event that celebrates cartoon, pop and Japanese culture,” Carroll said.
The event will have a series of DJs, artists and dealers who sell anime, fantasy, and gaming items, according to Carroll. There will be a video game room for those who cannot go long without plugging in and taking on other gamers.
Carroll notes that costumes are not a requirement to enjoy the event. “It’s just as fun to be an observer as it is to participate,” Carroll said.
The president of the event company predicts there should be around 2,000 in attendance. Tickets at the door are an even $50.
