Infographic Release by TheNinjaProxy.Org Notes Internet Censorship by Country

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 19, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- TheNinjaProxy.org has released a new infographic to help one understand exactly how pervasive worldwide censorship is becoming. It use to be that one could exercise freedom in the real world; however, now the realm of the world-wide web is upon us all, and certain countries and concepts are restricted from the seemingly wide-open spaces of the internet. TheNinjaProxy.org has created an easy-to-understand infographic to show you what countries are handling censorship in a series of ways.

According to the infographic, in 2006 there were 13 countries that were reported as 'Enemies of the Internet'. The countries were Armenia, Bahrain, Belarus, Burma, China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

In 2009, Belarus was removed from the list. The country was added and again removed in 2012. In 2011, Egypt was added, only to be removed that year following the countryÂ’s political turmoil. Tunisia also made its way off the list in 2011, only to be added again the following year.

TheNinjaProxy.org's infographic also shows the countries and history of those who are 'under surveillance'. To be under surveillance means that the users within the country are being in some way monitored or impede persons in some way without blocking large amounts of information. Australia was on the list of added in 2009 to the list. However, the large majority of countries are those with traditionally Muslim government, including Yemen, Bahrain, Yemen, and Libya. Countries like Thailand, India, and France all have remained on the list since its creation in 2008.

The infographic also points to countries who may well be at risk of having more intensive restrictions levied on their country's internet-based freedom, including Azerbaijan, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.
