(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 19, 2013 ) Detroit, MI—When you consider that over 90% of businesses fail within one year, you might wonder what would motivate people to start a business in the first place. That’s exactly why Alison Vaughn, CEO of Jackets For Jobs, is excited about the entrepreneur workshop hosted by the University of Phoenix. The workshop takes place on February 15th from 4-7pm at the school’s Detroit location in room 515/516. “Being a successful business owner is as much art as it is science,” said Vaughn. “They say hindsight is 20/20 and when I started my business I wish I knew then what I know now.”
Vaughn will join several other Detroit business standouts in a panel discussion so students can ask questions and hear the stories of how they got to where they are. Following the panel discussion the students will go through three workshops: Beginning Your Start-up, Start Your Own Business and Creative Ways To Fund Your Start Up. “It’s so great that these students have the opportunity to explore entrepreneurship and what it takes to run a business,” explained Vaughn. “I have grown so much as a person because of Jackets For Jobs and I’m so thankful for that. I never would have imagined that some of the most important lessons in life I have learned because of my business.”
University of Phoenix is known for its business school and successful graduates that have gone on to start businesses that continue to grow to this day. Vaughn will be joined on stage with Renée T. Walker, APR, President of Renée Walker & Associates, LLC, Edward Foxworth, III, Executive Producer and host of a regionally televised show, American Entrepreneur, William R. Ross and President of the Booker T. Washington Business Association (BTWBA), Lea Fortunata Sassano.
Vaughn hopes to impart some of the wisdom she’s learned in the 13 years she has led Jackets For Jobs on the students. “Every day my job is to help other people and if I can help just one of the students in attendance I will have done my job,” Vaughn explained. “Owning a business can be a wonderfully rewarding experience, especially with some insider knowledge.”
