(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 28, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Thousands upon thousands of science fans have expressed both surprise and shock when they learned a popular science blog is run by a woman.
The Facebook page titled “I F***ing Love Science” has more than 4 million followers, and after Ellis Andrew, posted a link of her personal Twitter account, some found it hard to believe she was female.
The post, which showed Andrews Twitter profile picture, was the effect of thousands of comments discussing her gender. One commenter wrote: “I am ashamed to say I assumed you were a man.”
The Brit blogger, who lives in Canada wrote simply: “I got Twitter! I figured it's about time I started exploring other social media. If you're on there, can you Tweet me some science people worth following?”
Other commenters made a point to discuss her appearance rather than science itself. “F**k me! This is a babe?!!” With another chiming in with “Holy hell, you're [sic] a HOTTIE!”
The page is filled with scientific questions, photos, and discussions, as well as exciting breakthroughs and notes, all within the realm of science. Some commenters stated the fact that Andrew is female should not matter.
“'My fellow dudebros: Chillax. In science, sex is just a single genome characteristic.”
Andrew, who graduated with a biology degree from the University of Sheffield in 2012, was disappointed by the overwhelming response to her gender.
She tweeted: 'EVERY COMMENT on that thread is about how shocking it is that I'm a woman! Is this really 2013?'
