(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 29, 2013 ) Detroit, MI—It’s official, Detroit’s leading non-profit, Jackets For Jobs, will celebrate its 13th anniversary gala Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 10am-12pm at the Doubletree Suites by Hilton-Downtown Detroit, 525 W. Lafayette Blvd, Detroit, MI 48226.
The keynote speaker this year will be none other than Lucille OÂ’Neal, the mother of NBA great Shaquille OÂ’Neal. Mrs. OÂ’Neal is very active in the community and has written a book titled Walk Like You Have Somewhere To Go. She will certainly have many life lessons everyone will be able to learn from.
Alison Vaughn, CEO and founder of Jackets For Jobs, launched the company when she lost her sister to cancer and discovered that her sister was also on welfare. She was inspired to do something to help others who were struggling financially but still and had a desire to gain employment. And today Jackets for Jobs helps its clients by providing career coaching, interview training and professional business attire.
Jackets For Jobs opened its doors in 2000, and since then has helped over 14,000 individuals with employment, including over 1,000 people in 2012. Jackets For Jobs has been supported and applauded by ABC's "The View, NBC's "Today Show", and Oprah's O Magazine. Certainly a huge company moment came when JFJ was a part of ringing the closing bell on the NASDAQ. The organization is also proud to be in charitable partnership with TJ Maxx.
Jackets for Jobs plans to expand into other markets in the very near future. “We believe there is a national opportunity,” states Vaughn. “There are so many more metropolitan areas that desperately need our help.”
Lucille O'Neal opens up about her life in her book Walk Like You Have Somewhere to Go as well as in the messages she delivers around the country. She has endured poverty, rejection, abuse, addiction, and the illness of a child, yet today her faith and compassion for others is stronger than ever.
