Plus-Size Mannequins Used by Sweden Store Stir Big Buzz Reports Reports Plus Size Clothing Only

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 05, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- A clothing and accessories store in Sweden is now being heralded by women across the world after the photos of a surprisingly curvy mannequin was posted online.

Dressed in rather skimpy lingerie, the mannequins in the picture displayed softer stomachs, fuller thighs and more realistic propositions that is seen at many clothing stores. This prompted praise given that it not only was more realistic in general, but also gave customers a better concept of how the clothing actually looked on a realistic figure. For comparison, most mannequins within the United States are between sizes 4 and 6, and in certain stores they are at 0 or 2 quite often. The average size of American women today is size 12 to 14 depending on height.

A blogger at Women's Rights News posted a photograph of the pair of department store mannequins to Facebook and the responses were immediate and quite overwhelmingly positive. "It's about time reality hit..." wrote one out of almost 2,500 commentators. "Anybody saying these mannequins encourage obesity or look unhealthy, you have a seriously warped perception of what is healthy. I guarantee the "bigger" mannequin in the front there represents a perfect BMI" wrote another.

The pictures garnered over 50,000 likes and were shared 15,000 times in a week span.

There were rumors that the mannequins were on display at H&M, however a spokesperson stated that: "The image is not from an H&M store. At this time, we are not using this type of mannequin, but we do not rule of the possibility of doing so in the future."

Mannequins have been used for, quite literally, thousands of years. However, their function for fashion is a recent trend, and first appeared in store windows in the 1800s during the American Industrial revolution. Through the early 1900s the mannequins changed in size and shape to fit both the clothing and the bodies of the time. In the 1960s the mannequins then were used to model more risque and skimpier/slender clothing. That trend continued almost universally... up until this latest unveiling.
