(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 17, 2012 ) Fort Worth, TX -- Chief Executive officer of Google, Eric Schmidt, recently conveyed his and the companyÂ’s belief that Microsoft is not competition for the now globally famous company.
With the recent release of Windows 8 (OS) Microsoft is looking to narrow the gap between it and the competition in the technology market, but recent interviews have revealed that Google isnÂ’t worried.
Schmidt told businessinsider.com that while he has not used the new device, but does not see Microsoft as, “a trendsetter in this new model.” In other words, Schmidt does not believe that Microsoft poses any threat to Google sales or technology at the present moment; maybe in the past, but not anymore.
Schmidt continued his subtle bash of Microsoft when he remarked that the four major players in the technology industry are Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Google. His comments were surprising considering that Microsoft continues to produce the most used operating systems in the entire world. Schmidt also said that the industry had never before seen four companies of such large scale, and while the IBM and Microsoft had previously battled, the new wide-ranging competition is something unseen before.
While Schmidt’s remarks may come as a surprise to many, it is not the first time the executive has bashed his “competitors.” Back in the summer, he accused Microsoft of failing to produce any “state-of-the-art” products and release them in big technology markets.
His comments are slightly misguided as Microsoft was responsible for the XBOX 360, which has been selling steadily since its release seven years ago, and even sold 750,000 consoles over the thanksgiving week.
He admitted that the new Microsoft Surface could really help the company if it sells well, but his skepticism was obvious. Such subtle comments between competitors are not uncommon especially from an emerging giant such as Google. With what seems an increasingly strong grip on the technology industry, Schmidt and Google may have a point with their idea that Microsoft is falling, but who knows what the future brings. What is great about technology is that it is unexpected, and as Google took off, so could Microsoft.
