(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 19, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- After centuries of having pimples and flaming skin, teenager's nightmares may be coming to an end as new research on acne DNA may have located a successful treatment.
According to researchers “good acne bacteria may protect sufferers from those the causes of the condition.
Acne might have been known to humankind since the start of life, but while there have been attempts to eradicate it, the affliction persists. Doctors know the cause for the condition, and they also know how it appears and develops, but they still are not sure just how to cure the cases of acne.
New research that has recently been published in the Investigative Dermatology journal is now giving some hope for a successful treatment that could be available in the near future. The study was lead by Dr. Noah Craft at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute, wherein it was noted that Propionibacterium acnes bacteria responsible for pimples during adolescence were not the only kind of bacteria. It was found that there are numerous strands and differing strain types as well.
Among the volunteers of the study, 52 had healthy skin, while 49 had severe acne outbreaks. The researchers found that the P acne bacteria accounted for almost 9-of-10 cases, and it was found in both acne sufferers as well as those who did not suffer any (or minimal) outbreaks. It turns out that most have P. acnes, but there are two particular strains that are problematic. The researchers also found a relating strand (a cousin of sorts) was responsible for removal of the acne-starting bacterium.
The next step for the researchers is developing a probiotic treatment in an applicable form that contains a good strand. It is the same principle as the concept of gut protection in regards to bacteria. There are the bacteria that break down the food and other items, but in too strong an abundance these same bacteria are harmful to the gut/stomach itself. That is why there are 'good' bacterium that handle controlling the total of the corrosive bacteria.
