SmokeWire.com Releases Infographic Contrasting Alcohol to Marijuana

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 22, 2013 ) Rohnert Park, CA -- After the prohibition was lifted on alcohol, the sales of the spirits, beers, wines, and other beverages became a huge industry that spans the country. Meanwhile, marijuana usage is still considered as dangerous as drugs such as heroin, PCP, methamphetamine, and cocaine. Despite the years of research proving the negative effects of the legal drug, and the positive effects of the illegal drug, there are still those are not aware of the truth about either product. SmokeWire.com has now released an infographic that provides information on both products, including their effects and their drawbacks.

According to SmokeWire.com, both alcohol and marijuana were utilized as alleviators of ailments before either was banned. Alcohol was used to soothe headaches, toothaches, and depression, while cannabis was used to stimulate appetite. Both became demonized later on in United States history. While alcohol was considered a drug that introduced savagery in behavior, cannabis was depicted as a drug that caused insanity or hysteria in those who used it. After a stint of prohibition, alcohol was legalized, while marijuana was kept illegal.

According to the infographic, in recent polling, 91% of respondents believed that alcohol was significantly more dangerous than THC. The Imperial College of London assessed that alcohol accounts for 5% of the disease burden total, including 37,000 fatalities each year. There appears to be no existing category for marijuana users.

The Scientific Research Society noted that alcohol consumption increased risk of lung cancer by nearly a third, while esophagus, stomach, colon, lung, pancreatic, liver, and prostate cancer are all related to alcohol use. Marijuana, however, appears to have no correlation to other than possible links to lung cancer (if smoked heavily) and possible mental addiction.

The infographic also notes the positive of marijuana, including the lack of physical addiction, antidepressant quality, alleviation of cancer symptoms, lack of overdose capability, brain cell growth promotion, and more. Alcohol tends to be associated only with negative effects, though it is fair to say mild use can promote heart/blood health.
