(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 22, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- A New Jersey man was arrested for allegedly stealing over $100,000 worth of perfume.
Juan Bernal, allegedly employed a young man to help him heist $117,000 worth of perfumes. The two are now accused of loading thousands of bottles that were swiped off Cosmetic Essence Innovations in the Holmdel into an SUV.
The police have stated that Bernal stole 1,890 4.2-ounce bottles of 5th avenue by Elizabeth Arden on Friday. The total of the bottles accounted for $109,620 of the total. He reportedly also stole 234 3.4-ounce bottles of Victoria's Secret PINK, which was valued for the remainder of the total.
According to reports, the juvenile was enlisted to assist Bernal load the bottles into SUVs, but it is unclear how two were caught. Still, both were arrested the night of the heist and are now awaiting trial.
Bernal is being held in the Monmouth County jail on a bail set at $100,000.
Oddly enough, the attempted swipe of perfume was not the oddest story of the year. Earlier in 2013, two storage workers allegedly stole $65,000 worth of chicken wings days before the Super Bowl. There had been a reported nationwide chicken wing shortage, though one would assume that was not the outright impetuous for the stealing of so many wings. At least one would hope not. So while BernalÂ’s heist may not be the most ridiculous of the early year, it certainly raises an eyebrow or two.
