(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 02, 2013 ) Dothan, AL -- Capitol Hill Group Ministry (CHGM) is a community service organization dedicated to “serving the community, one neighbor at a time”. Comprised of an interfaith coalition of congregations and concerned citizens, CHGM strives to meet the social and spiritual needs of families and individuals throughout Capitol Hill and Ward 6 communities as well as the homeless throughout the DC area. CHGM offers the following services and programs to empower and assist families and individuals through crisis/emergency situations:
Shirley’s Place – As DC’s only “drop-in” center, Shirley’s Place is a Day Hospitality Center for families and individuals in crisis. The Center provides a safe and healthy environment for individuals to participate in life skills workshops, receive case management services and use lavatory and laundry facilities. The Center also provides light meals and access to telephone services.
Congregation Based Shelter Project – Through this project, local congregations work with CHGM to provide emergency shelter for 8-10 homeless families each night of the year. The project also helps families build a support network and aide them in moving from their crisis situation to stability by providing them with the services they need.
Family Resource Center – Through the Family Resource Center, CHGM offers a variety of services to parents in Ward 6 who are interested in improving the quality of life for their children. The Center provides families with access to primary services that include intensive case management, family support services, advocacy, information and referral services, parenting skills classes and financial workshops.
Shelter Plus Care (SPC) – The Shelter Plus Care program provides housing and supportive services on a long-term basis for homeless individuals with disabilities who were once living in emergency shelters. Through the program individuals can receive assistance through several housing services including rental assistance, intensive case management and a host of supportive services provided through DHS and HUD.
Emergency Client Assistance – Through this program, CHGM assist clients experiencing crisis with rent and/or mortgage payments, utility payments, food, transportation and medical expenses. CHGM also provides case management services and crisis intervention services when needed.
Street Outreach – Through their Street Outreach, CHGM builds supportive relationships with individuals in DC’s homeless community in an effort to offer their resources and referral services as well as intervention services.
Community Building Events – To help strengthen the Capitol Hill Community, CHGM provides several outreach programs and events which include: CHGM’s Free Low-Income Tax Clinic; Community Dialogues; Holiday Support for families and special Christmas and Thanksgiving meals.
