(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 05, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- One of the more prominent items in the many booths of the Kaura-Con anime convention exhibition in Seattle was the Bluefin Distribution display of Gundam models and toys.
The many wonderfully crafted and painted toys were up for viewing and also purchasing. One of the fringe benefits of being an anime fan is the ability to become a collector of the ever-growing number of anime figures, figurines, and model toy sets. For those who enjoy the act of collecting, anime characters are a rare case to have a huge assortment of characters and character types. Indeed, for any anime fan who enjoys a hands-on approach to owning figures in varying series, such as the “Gundam” series, the building and painting of model kits is a pure enjoyment.
Gundam has been a long-time genre of interest for anime fans spanning the globe. The interest in the series hit the United States in the late 90s, and has seen a strong niche carved out, along with many factions of anime from across the Pacific.
Gunpla is the name of the company that allows for such Gundam-based enjoyment, and is usually involved trade. The most skilled of Gunpla enthusiasts can customize their models, even creating figures that are complete with battle damage, or create their own hybrid model from multiple sets.
Bluefin Distribution showed off its upcoming line at the showcase as well, showing off anime figures and toys to the many on-hand at the showcase in the Washington Convention Center, who had gathered for the Sakura-Con. The figures are both highly detailed and sincerely fawned over as they are showed off. Many of the quality items showcased were then available for purchase after their showing.
Sakura-Con, as well as Blufin Distribution held a model contest for Gundam model furnishers. The contest was a qualifier for the 2013 Gunpla Builders World Cup.
