Tobacco Tax Revenue Goes Down By 5.2% in Arkansas Discusses Ehefs.org

(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 14, 2013 ) Dallas, TX -- In Arkansas, Tobacco Tax Revenue decline by 5.2 % in the year 2013. According to the Arkansas Finance and administration, the revenue from tobacco taxes goes down by 5.2% in comparison of the last year. In the last fiscal year, the total revenue from tobacco taxes was $198.4 million but in the current year i.e. in 2013, the revenue goes down by $188.2 million. Experts conclude lots of reasons that are responsible for this declination including cigarette smuggling, emergence of electronic cigarette in the market etc.

As per the survey, Adelman estimates that e cigarettes will take the place of around 1.5 billion cigarettes this year, up from around 600 million last year. With the increasing popularity of e cigarettes among the smokers, the consumption rate of these devices is getting high. Another reason of declining tax revenue is that in many places the cigarette tax rate is very low in comparison of Arkansas. Missouri, a state of US, charges of cigarette tax rate is only 17 cent per pack while in Arkansas; the tax rate is $1.15 per pack. Therefore local smokers of Arkansas prefer to go to Missouri to purchase the cigarettes.

The low cigarette tax rate in Missouri allow customers to save near about 10, $15, $20 a box over what they spend in Arkansas says Ehefs.org. According to Dr. Gary Wheeler, the branch chief of infectious disease at the Arkansas Department of Health and the medical director for the department's tobacco program, new nicotine products, like electronic cigarettes, as well as black market purchases and internet sales, could be to blame for tobacco tax declination.

There are lots of people who are highly addicted of smoking but tobacco inhalation causes severe disease like cancer. Therefore, with the emergence of best electronic cigarette brand in the market, most of the smokers switched toward these devices. These e cigarettes come out in different mouth watering flavors and nicotine strength of different levels and therefore, smokers attract toward these devices. Electronic cigarettes are also a reason for declining tobacco tax rate.
