(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 18, 2013 ) Peoria, AZ -- Duke University recently released a study that says the deeper your voice, the higher your chances are of earning more at your job.
In the study, 792 male chief executive officers of companies were interviewed and a correlation between voice pitch and salary wages showed that those with deeper voices earned an upwards of 121,000 EU more than other CEOs with higher pitched voices.
The median CEO of the study was a 56-year-old with a 125.5 Hz vocal frequency and earned £2.4 million ($3.7 million) for leading a £1.5 billion ($2.4 billion) company, The Times reported.
A previous study, conducted by Dr Yi Xu, who carried out several experiments where both men and women listened to recordings of the opposite speaking a sentence to test vocal attractiveness, showed that deeper voices were described as more attractive for both men and women.
The reason why researchers believe that deeper voices yield higher wages is that a deep voices are considered dominant, since testosterone levels often play an important part in voice pitch.
Deeper Voices are More Attractive
The study conductors suggest that the effects of a deep voice are more often than not subconscious: Just because a person has a deep, dominant voice does not mean they run a totalitarian business.
In addition, men with deeper voices are considered more attractive to women than men with higher pitched tones. For example, George Clooney has has been named Sexiest Man Alive and has been given several roles to play in which his voice is used to his advantage. In contrast, men find women with friendly and sweet voices to be more attractive, as they suggest a submissive tone of voice.
