(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 18, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- After the Supreme Court sought to ban pornography on the internet, the internet became abuzz with comments regarding the infringement of rights. The high court is now seeking to make the mere viewing of pornography a non-bailable offense.
According to subsequent media reports, the court has asked the government to respond to the public interest litigation. The court also issued a series of notices to the ministers of home offices, as well as information technology, information and broadcasting, and home affairs. The Internet Service Providers Association also received a notice on a petition seeking the installment of an anti-pornography law, according to reports.
While the concerns of a policing state for personal viewing is a worrisome one, many wonder if the endeavor is even possible for the government to attempt to enact. There are, in general, two primary ways to block pornography sites. The first is to virtually remove the content. That can
only be possible with sites that are established within the country. However, those sites outside of the country are not beholden to the rules. This works in much the same way that Pirate Bay, the popular Swedish torrenting site, continues to bite its thumb at United States laws that ban piracy.
The second way to attack pornography is strong-arming internet providers to block access to particular website's addresses, and thus disallow use. The problem with the latter is the fact that proxy servers exist, and are readily available for free or on the cheap for anyone. By simply using a proxy, the ISP of a computer is guarded and the person can work around any blockage made by the country they are in. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are also used to allow access to a blocked ISP , and will not leave a trail of any type. Both, being wholly legal, stand as just another way individuals can wholly avoid the possible government maneuvers against pornography.
