Personal Injury Protection Could Cost More

(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 26, 2013 ) Denver, CO -- Some members in Michigan legislature are proposing changes to no-fault automobile insurance. Senate and House insurance committees say it will save auto insurance consumers money, mainly because of competition and a reduction in personal injury protection.

The proposal states that it would cause insurance premiums to lower up to $125 a year, which sounds great.

Right now, if youÂ’re seriously hurt in an accident and suffer a spine or brain injury, once you meet an average of $500 thousand deductible, the protection policy will pay for the rest.

But Governor Snyder says that providing care for life for accidents victims is too generous and makes insurance rates too high, adding that there are others ways people can pay for care.

Most insurances donÂ’t cover physical therapy or long term rehabilitation, so Snyder wants to put a limit on what doctors and surgeons can charge for services.

Those who oppose this new proposal, mainly lawyers say that while it seems to benefit the insurance companies, the taxpayers lose out, and ultimately so to the people who are injured in accidents.

ItÂ’s unclear why MichiganÂ’s governor and the insurance legislators are zoning in on the Personal Injury Protection Plan, but the proposals arenÂ’t limited to just Michigan. Other no-fault auto insurance states are also looking into this type of protect. But according to the Insurance Information Institute, that policy coverage is the best in the entire nation.
