(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 07, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Wittenberg loves his home and neighborhood. He says his house is open and the neighborhood is wonderful. However, moving into that home and neighborhood was anything but an amazing experience.
When Wittenberg bought a new house, he contacted a local moving company that was bonded and insured and got an estimate for moving his home. "He gave us a really thorough examination of the house," Wittenberg said. They agreed on one truck, three movers and a price of $1,600.
On moving day, everything went wrong. Only two movers showed up.
Wittenberg said that instead of staying and calling in another mover, the movers that were there just left. He recalls being super stressed out.
When he called the company, he didnÂ’t get a resolution. The man on the phone told him that for another $1,000, they would send another mover out to help, which is a direct violation of the law in Nevada. Law regarding professional movers says moving estimates are binding. A mover can't charge you more unless you request additional services that weren't included in the original estimate.
"It was just a huge failure," Wittenberg said. He immediately canceled the move and called on reliable friends to get the job done that day. Thankfully, he never paid the original movers, because payment was due after the job was done. He says he's glad he can now enjoy the home he loves so much without the hassle of having to deal with the movers.
