(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 09, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- At the beginning of this week, Zynga laid off over 500 employees and closed three of its offices, New York, Los Angeles and Dallas, in an effort to salvage what they can of the company and focus on the mobile side of the company.
Now, word is that OMGPOP, which runs games like Draw, that Zynga bought only last year for $200 million, is already on the chopping block, if it isn’t already dead. In a statement released on the company blog, CEO Mark Pincus writes, “None of us ever expected to face a day like today, especially when so much of our culture has been about growth.”
Those who criticize Zynga (including Mark Zuckerberg himself) say most of their “growth” came out of ripping of games from smaller companies such as getting Farmville’s idea from developer Slashkey’s game, Farm Town.
By closing down some offices and downsizing their workforce, Zynga hopes that they can revamp before their situation gets too dire and they’ll be able to bounce back from this and continue on with their “quality player experience.”
