(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 10, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- According to the latest research from students at UNLV, there is no significantly direct relationship between the attendance at conventions and gaming revenue for Las Vegas casinos and gaming establishments.
Conventions do, however, drive up occupancy rates, and the higher occupancy levels are known to be correlated with an increase in room rates. The increase in room occupancy is also related directly to the to the higher gaming revenue; which means that conventions are somewhat indirectly correlated to the effect of gaming revenue, but not necessarily a direct cause.
Casino industry leaders and academics are now debating the issues surrounding the business of gaming that still thrives on individuals' willingness to take levels of risk.
The 15th International Conference on Gambling & Risk Taking is part of a four-day event that will involve presentations, panels, and proliferation regarding the gaming industry as a whole. Basic concepts of the gaming industry, as well as industry views in varying countries and the challenges of gaming problems will all be discussed.
Malek stated that there are three major possible concepts which industry players can have regarding the impact of conventions and gaming. Many believe conventions drive up casino play, while others believe them to be detrimental. Finally, there are those that believe it has little-to-no impact.
According to Malek's research, a surefire understanding of how it affects the gaming revenues needs to be studied more for an answer. Concepts such as how midweek and weekend play is handled by individuals is key to truly understanding the if there are demographics to be considered separately.
The International Conference on Gambling & Risk Taking was initial created by Bill Eadington, and it is attended by mathematicians, anthropologists, psychologists, sociologists, and regulator alike. Now in its fifteenth year, it returns to Las Vegas for the fifth time.
