 (EMAILWIRE.COM, June 13, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- According to the infograph, 85 percent of American adults have gambled at least one time since they were born. 65 percent of them have gambled at least one in the past year, and 30 percent have made some sort of wager in the last month. 15 percent of those surveyed said they had placed a bet or wager of some kind within the last week. Not surprisingly, over 100,000,000 adults gamble on sports in some way each year, including 67 percent of all students enrolled in college.
80 percent of Americans find no wrong in betting and wagering, and find that playing casinos and other betting events are okay.
When surveyed across 11 different kinds of sports, nine percent of the athletes from those sports say they place a bet or wager on a sports team at least once a month.
Those may seem like unmatchable numbers, but according to the infograph, the numbers are rising. There wasnÂ’t a single legal state-sponsored lottery in the U.S. from 1924 to 1964. Just 20 years ago, only two states allowed legal state-sponsored gambling. Now, Alaska and Hawaii are the only two states that have no form of legal gambling in the states. Currently, however, Nevada is the only state to have legalized, regulated, policed, and taxed sports wagering.
Ottawa, Canada officially repealed a 611 year-old prohibition on dice games on March 15, 1999 that was originally imposed by Richard III in England. Back in the 1380Â’s, Richard II thought that his archers were spending too much time playing games like backgammon and feared for the safety of the country, thus banning any game that used dice.
The infograph cites a CNN report about a 32 year old man from London named Ashley Revell who sold every single thing he owned to bet it all on ‘red’ at a roulette wheel in Las Vegas. He doubled his wager of $135,300 leaving him with $270,600.
