For $149 iPhone 5 owners can now fix their cracked screen and skip repair shops that have charged anywhere in the range of $180 to $225. MacRumors was the first to report the development, and several other sites have since backed the claim. It is not clear whether this service will be offered only in the US or in other countries as well.
This new offering would be great for customers as the iPhone seems to be more susceptible to cracks than previous models. Keeping the cracked screen instead of having it replaced is likely due to the fact that replacing a broken iPhone screen is expensive and difficult, costing a couple hundred dollars to repair the screen or up to $600 to replace the phone. However, with the emergence of a semi-affordable screen repair, the cracked screen may lose its edge.
