(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 15, 2013 ) Irvine, CA -- Having trouble sleeping at night? The culprit might reside in your walls. A recent study found that homeowners with light blue colored bedroom walls slept almost eight hours each night, whereas those with purple walls slept under six.
Conducted on roughly 2,000 guests of the Travelodge hotel chain, the survey demonstrated the effects that room color can have on inhabitants, ranging from hours of sleep to sex life and shopping habits. Couples staying in caramel colored rooms had sex three times a week on average. In red bedrooms, this number decreased to once per week.
The owner of Yessick Design Center, Marsha Yessick, explained how many customers have been requesting the blue and chocolate combination over the past several years. However, with its recent popularity, designers are looking for fresher color combinations. Many are now turning to green and brown tones, as the green keeps a restful feeling to the room. Ms. Yessick also explained that many green hues can be seen in new fabrics that are coming out, particularly in bedding.
Taupe and shades of soft gray remain best sellers for homeowners when it comes to paint color, and green is often a nice complement to those colors, especially in the bedroom. As many are afraid to be too daring with paint colors, neutrals remain the paint colors of choice. Ms. Yessick suggests pairing light gray with a soft yellow to get an updated look.
The survey also detailed how people in certain professions tend to choose certain colors for their bedroom. For instance, builders, teachers and civil servants often choose pale blue, while bankers were more likely to have decor in a gold color. Another interesting finding was that those who spent the most time in bed shopping online lived in gray rooms.
