Arna.net Releases Infograph on Job Duties of Different types of Nurses

(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 18, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Arna.net recently published a free infograph with comprehensive information on certified nursing assistants. A Certified Nursing Assistant, or CNA, helps patients and clients with health needs under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.

A CNA, also known as a nurseÂ’s assistant or patient care assistant, is an important part of the healthcare field. While their medical training and experience legally prevents them from performing certain procedures, they have a wide range of tasks and responsibilities that help RNs and doctors tremendously. CNAs make beds, feed patients, setup meal trays, monitor vital signs, empty catheter bags, document food and medication intake, care for patientsÂ’ hygienic care and work with patients to ensure they are getting the best care possible.

According to Arna.netÂ’s new infograph, the median salary for a CNA is $24,010, or around $12 an hour. The outlook for the job in the future is growing faster than average. By 2016, there will be a projected need for over 390,000 jobs for CNAs.

A licensed practical nurse (LPN) is a nurse who cares for people who are sick, injured, convalescent, or disabled under the direction of registered nurses and doctors. LPNs perform basic bedside care, including measuring and recording vital signs and height, and weight. They have a little more responsibility than CNAs, such as administering injections, enemas and catheters, as well as dressing wounds and giving massages. LPNs also assist with bathing, dressing and patient mobility.

In the next 3 years, the job outlook for LPNs is also faster than the normal job rate. By 2016, the need for LPNs in the health care facilities will increase by 22 percent. The median salary for an LPN is around $40,000 a year, or close to $20 an hour.

A registered nurse, or RN, is a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program at a college or university, usually with a bachelorÂ’s degree in science. RNs have more responsibility than CNAs and LPNs, because they have passed a licensing exam that tests the scope of practice determined by the government.

An RN oversees a broad range of health-related specialties, including transport nursing, ambulatory care, medical surgical nursing, home health care, telehealth or a 1-800 hotline for talking to nurses, psychiatric mental health, critical care, transplant, and many other areas.

The job outlook is great for RNs, with an expected 26 percent increase in the field. RNs make around $65,000 a year, or over $30 an hour.
