(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 08, 2013 ) San Clemente, CA -- Last week, while the U.S. Supreme Court declined to rule on whether or not the same-sex marriage was unconstitutional or not, the judges to uplift the ban, causing a large flock of same sex couples to pile in courthouses to get married.
Last weekend, the Los Angeles County clerk-recorderÂ’s office noted that there were over 600 online marriage applications submitted over the weekend, more than five times the normal amount. The office had to extend its hours on Monday and Tuesday of last week just to deal with the influx.
In West Hollywood, it is believed that 40 percent of the population is gay, lesbian or bisexual. The City Council pitched in to help those citizens get to the court and city hall by offering free shuttles to government offices.
Shasta County says it will open its doors on a per-needs basis to deal with the number of same sex marriages expected to take place. Generally, the county courthouse only performs marriages twice a week, but until the hype dies down, more will be performed.
Opponents were not as visible as they had been during the lengthy legal run. Less than a dozen protesters stood outside the LA clerk-recorders office holding signs about the sanctity of marriage and GodÂ’s design for a man and a woman.
