Five Wedding Traditions itÂ’s Okay to Ignore

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 08, 2013 ) San Clemente, CA -- After a Slice article on June 10, 2013 titled “Wedding Traditions You Can Skip”, Do the Bride a Favor came up with its own five wedding traditions that can be skipped. Every bride wants her dream wedding, but certain traditions and etiquette can get in the way. Here are five traditions that are acceptable to ignore to help brides get their dream wedding without feelings pressured to follow rules and expectations.

The first rule that can be skipped is wearing white. The most important part of a wedding dress is that the bride feels beautiful and comfortable. Wearing white became a tradition because of the Queens in England, not because of a wives tale that virgin brides must wear white for their purity. Now, brides go down the aisle in every color imaginable.

Historically, Brides have given monogrammed items such as handkerchiefs and glasses to their guests as favors. Now, wedding parties give out edible favors or little trinkets that represent their wedding, instead.

For a long time, a groom seeing the bride before the ceremony was considered to be bad luck and a bad omen for their coming years, but wedding photography has changed that, since most photo shoots happen before the wedding to get it out of the way of the reception. The “first look” photoshoot has become increasingly popular, where the bride surprises the groom before the ceremony with the photographer catching his reaction.

The Garter Toss and Bouquet toss are falling to the wayside of wedding receptions, either because they donÂ’t fit into the theme of the wedding or they make people feel uncomfortable.

Couples are starting to ditch old traditions of having women for bridesmaids and men for groomsmen. Now, brides are choosing men to be in their wedding party and grooms are choosing women to be on their side of the aisle to represent people who are extremely important to them, or to honor the personsÂ’ sexuality.

Every culture and family has their own traditions for weddings, but most can be tweaked or changed to still represent the tradition in a new and trendy way. Wedding planners are great at coming up with ideas and themes for weddings that still represent what a couple wants for their big day.
