Now, new research is underlining that fact with hard evidence against a particular affliction of the mind. People who drink juice regularly are found to have a reduced Alzheimer's disease, according to new research.
The linkage has been long suspected, as antioxidant vitamins were considered likely to help the brain with dementia. That said, research had been sketchy at best regarding the issue. Now, scientists from the University of Washington noted that polyphenols in fruits and veggies likely played a role protection against the affliction.
The researchers took a sample size of 2,000 participants in the Seattle area to gain their numbers. They utilized individuals from Seattle, and the grouping consisted of those who were free of Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia.
The diets of the grouping was monitored for a decade and factors considered regarding their cognitive functions. Those who drank fruit or vegetable juices three times a week or more were found to be 76% less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease thank those who had a lower intake.
Researchers are stating that the likely reason is the ApoE4 allele, which is a genetic marker for Alzheimer's development.
Doctors note that the next step in the research is to consider the polyphenol levels in the blood to look for direct linkage between Alzheimer's risk. If there is an obvious link, juices and nectar will have a new reason to be pushed to the foreground of diets across the spectrum.
