Of all adults that use the internet regularly, 91 percent of them use social networking. 98 percent of them are adults between the ages of 18 and 24.
The percentage of social networking usage by gender in the United States favors female at 71 percent compared to males at 62 percent. However, a total of 84 percent of American adults spend their spare time talking and texting and interacting on social networks. In the workplace, Americans between 25-34 years old are most likely to use social media in their offices.
During the first quarter of 2013, US mobile users spent 15 percent of their time using social networking apps. 25 percent of adults believe social networking has boosted their confidence while 40 percent of people spend more time socializing online than they do face-to-face. In fact, social networks dominate internet usage, 20 percent on PC time and 30 percent of mobile time, spent on them over any other category of site.
Less Americans admit to lying or exaggerating on social networks than Britons, but only by four percent. The other top 10 most engaged countries for social networking include Israel, Argentina, Russia, Canada, Turkey, Chile, The Philippines, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela.
While most users are between the ages of 18 and 29, social networking usage among senior citizens has grown by 38 percent since February of 2005.
According to the infograph, The top reasons people engage in social networks is because they know their friends on their profile in person and theyÂ’re interested in keeping up with their lives, or they have access to business networks and connections.
