(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 20, 2013 ) Lakewood, CO -- According to the JAMA, surgery for back pain should only be considered a conservative choice if other therapies, such as chiropractic care, have failed first, because they are safer and more efficient in relieving pain.
A recent study from the medical journal Spine studied back pain sufferers of lower back pain who all received standard medical care, or SMC, and where half of participants also received chiropractic care. The researchers found that, for the patients who received SMC and chiropractic care, 73 percent reported that their pain was completely gone or much better compared to 17 percent of the group that only received SMC.
Back pain can range from anything from a dull ache to a sharp pain or tingling and numbness that runs down the leg. These can often be caused by damaged or pinched nerves, back injuries, or disc bulges. Many chiropractors are well equipped, educated, and experienced to provide back pain relief and treatment and also aid in preventing these problems.
Chiropractic care can show you how to properly maintain back health and prevent the possibility of future spinal problems. The JAMA says surgery should always be the last resort because there is a higher chance of failure and more risks involved than organic treatment.
