(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 22, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- New research suggests that over 50 percent of American adults have considered starting their own business. The research surveyed over 1,300 Americans and found that many have considered a side business to increase household income. Most expect to make a minimum of $50,000 gross per year from a side business, which suggests that entrepreneurial spirit in the US remains strong. Because of the online tools available now, the chance of success is much higher and the house are very flexible.
While 53 percent of total respondents said they have “seriously considered” starting their own business, there seems to be a gender gap - only 43 percent of women versus 59 percent of men. People of the Southwestern region are the most ambitious at 57 percent, followed by the Southeast, Midwest and Northeast.
Roughly 20 percent of respondents have considered a side project in addition to their existing job to boost income. Other motivations include a better work/life balance, passion for a hobby or the opportunity to be their own boss. The age group most motivated to start their own business are those between the ages of 35 and 44.
One of the more interesting findings was reflected in the amount of secondary income that would make a side business worthwhile. In the US, this number was roughly $50,000, whereas in many other Western European countries, the numbers were usually $40,000 or less.
Because of the plethora of online tools available to those who want to start a business and sell their product online, it has become much easier in recent years to launch a business. Graham Jones, a renowned Internet psychologist, explains that when the Internet is the focus of an individualÂ’s business, their productivity increases. With the availability of online tools, it is very possible to run productive and successful businesses.
