(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 26, 2013 ) Brooklyn, NY -- The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction detailed the reports of a shoddy construction job found out by a government watchdog detailed in a report released on Wednesday. The Inspector General calls this just one of the many broken promises and unfulfilled results.
WhatÂ’s more, aside from the lack of plumbing, the IG also found a host of dangerous electrical problems, in which he calls the Army of Engineers to provide an explanation on why so many problems still remain after the main contractors, Mercury Construction, had been dropped from liability.
Mercury was originally was given $2.9 million originally for the contract, but the payout continued to increase after 9 modifications happened throughout the course of construction. Over the span of the contract, which began in February of 2009, the Army Corps did send over 60 concerning letter over performance issues before the contractor finally walked away from the job.
