Love at First "Like"

(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 10, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- It may seem a little strange but then again, truth is stranger than fiction. Arindam Srivastava was engaged to be married soon but unfortunately, he is now sitting in jail because greed got the better of him. It was not his lust for money that got the him in trouble, it was his uncontrollable need for Facebook “likes.”

The MBA student at the Indian Institute of Quality Management was arrested for demanding 5000 Facebook “likes” for his college’s Management Fest page from the bride’s family. The wedding was set for tomorrow, said the bride that was to be, Anushka Sinha. However, the groom’s odd behavior and strange dowry demands forced the Sinha family to turn him into the police, who have arrested him under the anti-dowry act.

The aggrieved family members had tried to reason and negotiate with the groom. Champak Sinha, the bride’s father said sadly, “We tried to persuade him to settle for cash and a fourwheeler. He kept on insisting for LIKES. I am a mere government servant.” The brides little brother, Chota Chetan, also voiced his disappointment with the college student and blames it all on the “likes” the groom used to seduce his sister. “Who gives a f**k to what these private MBA colleges do?

I had warned [her] not to marry this guy but she was blinded by his LIKES on all her pictures. Even I had reconciled to his initial demand of 1000 LIKES. I and my half a dozen friends made hundreds of fake profiles to help him reach the target. But then, just two days before marriage, he increased his demand to 5000 likes! Even my fake girl profile has only 886 friends,” he said.

The brides elder brother had mixed emotions and requested the family to take back their complaint. “Instead of asking for money or property, my bro asked for LIKES. If this is a crime, then every MBA student should be put behind bars for pestering their friends for filling up stupid surveys and forcing them to LIKE pages about which no one outside their colleges gives two hoots.” he said remorsefully.
