(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 18, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Results of a study for the total cost of ownership, in which researchers compared three and five year cost estimates of depreciation, showed that clean diesel vehicles provided a better return on investment in both yearsÂ’ data, though there was a difference in the amounts of returns for different types of vehicles.
The researchers modeled used vehicle-auction data and fuel costs by modeling government data, and added those into the estimates of insurance, repairs, fees and taxes, as well as maintenance. They concluded that their data supports the idea that diesel vehicles can - and do - compete in a heavily gas-powered U.S. vehicle market.
Many consumers worry over the cost of diesel fuel compared to the cheaper gasoline, but when taken care of properly, cleaner diesel fuel is much better on a vehicle, helping owners maintain their cars better and last longer.
The study concludes that as more diesels are introduced into the U.S. market, the prices of diesel fuel may be lowered, just for the sheer amount of competing models.
