The study's authors examined the responses of a survey about the basic needs, health care, and mental health care use from 877 mothers and pregnant women in New Haven, Connecticut.
The study's authors found that women who experienced trouble paying for diapers were more likely to suffer from mental health afflictions than those who were readily able to pay for such necessities.
The study thus suggests that helping mothers provide basic needs such as diapers provided stronger “tangible ways to reduce parenting stress” according to the researchers.
