(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 25, 2013 ) Rancho Santa Margarita, CA -- If you just happen to be at Hampton Beach on Friday, then you likely noticed Batman, Darth Vader, and lots of other randomness. You also likely noted that there was a fair share of cowboys, sailors, and other such costumed individuals drowning the Ocean Boulevard. Don't fear, though, Halloween is not heard and it is not October.
Friday was the final day of Hampton Beach's Annual Children's Festival that ended with a giant costume parade that took place along the entirety of the beach. "I think this is our best parade yet," said Katie Curran, who organized the event on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce for Hampton Beach Village District.
The actual parade was the finale of the week that was otherwise stuffed with fantastic free gatherings and fun events for children.
BJ Hickman, a local magician, joined beachgoers and had them all marveling at his fantastic magic tricks. On Tuesday, children were able to twist balloons with Fran on Wednesday, while on Thursday, Ronald McDonald visited children at the Seashell Stage.
Curran noted that the entire weekend has been "Beautiful weather, tons of kids, and good entertainment and a great parade."
But the highlight, she said, was the parade.
"The whole event is neat, because what I found is that parents who did it as kids bring their kids or grandparents bring their grandkids," Curran said. "It really creates family memories."
Kerri McGann brought her three children, ages 6, 8, and 11, to the event. She says she has done so for the past several years, and enjoys returning for the fun. McGann and her family came in second for their customers when it came to a judges decision.
"This is the fifth year (they've won a prize)," McGann said. "This year they were under the sea. We had a seahorse, a starfish and a seashell. It's so much fun for the kids, they love this parade. It was a great parade," McGann said. "Smoothly run and the weather was beautiful."
