As an independent watchdog for the structured settlement industry, NSSTA has adopted guiding principles to its members and member organizations.

Using a tailored stream of payments, a structured settlement provides a long-term payment stream that is completely exempt from state and federal income taxes.
The Michigan Legislature passed a law in September 2006, revising the Structured Settlement Protection Act: AN ACT to regulate the transfer of structured settlements in Michigan rights; to place conditions on the transfer of structured settlement rights; to establish a procedure for approval of transfer of structured settlement rights.
