(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 06, 2014 ) Houston, Texas -- Because of the harsh cold weather, officials from the township of Monroe and Carlisle Borough have agreed to educate their citizens and rescue volunteers in ice fall accidents. The Yellow Breeches Creek which divides the two towns is a very dangerous place during winter. A lot of accidents happen in the creek even without the snow, but the ice and slippery grounds worsen this during winter.
In order to stay ahead of unwanted incidents, WhiteCap Water Rescue Training led the program to teach fifteen different volunteer workers from both townships. "If you don't have the proper training, you're not going to be able to save yourself," Todd Stahl of WhiteCap said Sunday. "We're showing them how to protect themselves and save themselves, and then we're advancing them to go out and save an individual."
Apart from the fact that rescuers need to be ready to save lives, residents and ordinary citizens are also expected to take extra care during these dangerous winter months. It is advisable for everyone to stay away from the creek and other bodies of water while the ice persists. Citizens should also have emergency utilities, light sticks, flare guns, and other attention-grabbing equipment in case they get into such accidents. If there is urgent need to go out, residents are also advised to keep authorities and family members informed of their whereabouts.
The fifteen officers who were trained by WhiteCamp will then train their subordinates to spread the knowledge and encourage everyone to be safe and alert this winter season. An accident has already taken place in the area and the authorities would like to prevent it as much as they can.
